STOP! You're in an authentication loop. Here's how to fix it:
CRITICAL: Base44 handles ALL authentication automatically. You should NEVER create:
- Login pages
- Signup pages
- Password reset pages
- Any authentication UI
HOW BASE44 AUTHENTICATION WORKS:
1. Users are invited through the Base44 Dashboard (not through code)
- Go to Dashboard → Users → Invite User
- Enter email and role
- User receives invitation email
- User creates password through Base44's system
2. For protected pages, check if user is logged in:
```javascript
import { base44 } from "@/api/base44Client";
import { useEffect, useState } from "react";
import { createPageUrl } from "@/utils";
export default function MyProtectedPage() {
const [user, setUser] = useState(null);
const [loading, setLoading] = useState(true);
useEffect(() => {
const checkAuth = async () => {
try {
const currentUser = await base44.auth.me();
setUser(currentUser);
} catch (error) {
// Not logged in - redirect to Base44 login page
base44.auth.redirectToLogin(createPageUrl("MyProtectedPage"));
}
setLoading(false);
};
checkAuth();
}, []);
if (loading) return <div>Loading...</div>;
return (
<div>
<h1>Welcome, {user.full_name}!</h1>
<button onClick={() => base44.auth.logout()}>
Logout
</button>
</div>
);
}
```
3. For public pages that should work for everyone:
```javascript
import { base44 } from "@/api/base44Client";
import { useEffect, useState } from "react";
export default function PublicPage() {
const [user, setUser] = useState(null);
useEffect(() => {
const checkAuth = async () => {
try {
const currentUser = await base44.auth.me();
setUser(currentUser);
} catch (error) {
// Not logged in - that's okay for public pages
}
};
checkAuth();
}, []);
return (
<div>
<h1>Public Content</h1>
{user ? (
<p>Welcome, {user.full_name}!</p>
) : (
<button onClick={() => base44.auth.redirectToLogin()}>
Login
</button>
)}
</div>
);
}
```
WHAT TO DELETE:
- Delete any Login.jsx or Login.js pages
- Delete any Signup.jsx or Signup.js pages
- Delete any Register pages
- Delete any authentication forms
WHAT TO KEEP:
- Regular app pages (Dashboard, Settings, etc.)
- The useEffect pattern above for checking auth
THE USER ENTITY:
- Already exists automatically
- Has these fields: id, email, full_name, role, created_date
- You can add custom fields but DON'T override the built-in ones
TO ADD CUSTOM USER FIELDS:
Create entities/User.json with ONLY your custom fields:
```json
{
"name": "User",
"type": "object",
"properties": {
"phone_number": {
"type": "string",
"description": "User's phone number"
},
"company": {
"type": "string",
"description": "User's company"
}
}
}
```
DON'T include id, email, full_name, or role in your User entity - they're automatic!
TO UPDATE CURRENT USER:
```javascript
await base44.auth.updateMe({
phone_number: "+1234567890",
company: "Acme Corp"
});
```
SUMMARY:
1. Delete all login/signup pages
2. Use base44.auth.me() to check if logged in
3. Use base44.auth.redirectToLogin() to send users to login
4. Use base44.auth.logout() to logout
5. Invite users through Dashboard → Users
That's it! Stop trying to build authentication - Base44 does it for you.After pasting the instructions:
Check if logged in:
const user = await base44.auth.me();Redirect to login:
base44.auth.redirectToLogin();Logout:
base44.auth.logout();Invite users:
Dashboard → Users → Invite User✅ All login/signup pages will be deleted
✅ Protected pages will use base44.auth.me() to check authentication
✅ Users will be redirected to Base44's login page when needed
✅ You'll invite users through the Base44 dashboard
✅ Authentication loop will be completely fixed
